PODIKIZHI

Podikizhi- is one of the most common and effective Ayurvedic therapy involving full body massage (or the affected part) using kizhis (cotton boluses) with a mixture of herbs, dipped in medicated oils. Among the many ancient practices of Ayurveda, one effective form of treatment is the Podikizhi, also known as Choorna Swedam. This sweat-inducing Ayurveda technique involves fomentation, sudation, and steaming treatments. It is used for different neurological ailments, arthritic conditions, obesity, sciatica, lumbago, and other painful diseases. Podikizhi is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘podi’ which means powder and ‘kizhi’ means bolus. It causes the body to sweat and heat up. This relieves any inflammation or pain due to arthritis or injury. It also helps stimulate the nerves which helps with neuromuscular diseases. Podikizhi can be performed in 2 ways: either by dipping the kizhi in warm oil or, using it warm and dry. Patient feels light and experience great relief.
