GREEVA VASTI

Greeva vasti- Greeva refers to the nape of neck region. In this procedure, medicated oil is retained in the neck region for a certain period of time. Compartment is done with the help of wet wheat flour or gram flour and warm medicated oil is poured in it and retained for some period of time. Before Greeva vasti, local massage with oil is done to improve the absorption of medicated oil or decoction of herbs according to requirement of person. In todays era, due to sedentary lifestyle, prolonged sitting in front of computer due to work or other works in which there is no movement of body posture leads to many cervical region, neck region complications. After this procedure, Abhyanga (massage) is lightly performed on the patient. Greeva Vasti is done in the morning if kapha dosha is dominant (neck stiffness), in the noon if pitta predominates (burning sensations or inflammation), and if vaata is dominant (pain), then treatment is performed in the evening. With these factors being considered, Greeva Vasti is generally performed early in the morning. The oils used in Greeva Vasti and in the Abhyanga massage are Ksheerabala tailam, Mahamasha tailam, Mahanarayana tailam, Kottamchukkadi tailam, Balashwagandhadi tailam, Ashwagandhabalalakshadi tailam, Sahacharadi tailam, Murivenna, Pinda tailam, Tiktaka ghritam, and Til tailam (sesame oil). It is useful in Cervical spondylosis, Sprains and strains, Tension and headaches, Migraines with aura, Spinal stenosis, Slipped herniated disc etc.,
