Pain Management

Pain is an unpleasant sensation and emotional experience related to tissue damage.Intellectual pain , emotional pain, physical pain ect are different types of pain.
According to ayurveda pain is due to a vitiation of vata dosha.vata dosha is the main dosha for pain.In ayurveda pain is known as Sula.According to nature different types of pain are there.Throbbing pain,pricking pain, burning pain ect.

Assessment of pain:
1.When pain started?
2.Duration of pain
3.Nature of pain
4.Location of the pain
5.What illness is associated with pain?
6.When it aggravated or reduced?
7.Any factors are associated with the aggregation?
All these are used to assess the pain

Management of pain:
Management of vata dosha helps to reduce the pain. Snehanam and swedhanam are the 2 ways used to control vata. Application of medicated oil in the pain full area, followed by sudation therapies like pindaswedham, Nadi swedham, dhara etc., This type of treatments are usually effective for backpain, neck pain, muscle pain etc.
Vasthi is the main treatment to control vata. Lumbar, cervical and abdominal pain vasthi treatment is useful. Along with this kadivasthi, januvasthi, shirovasthi, greevavasthi ect are useful to reduce pain in particular area. pizichil is also useful for pain. It gives both the effect of snehanam and swedhanam.
Through all these treatments vitiated vata will come to its normal state and due to the same pain reduced.
