NARANGA KIZHI

Naranga” means “lemon” and “kizhi” means “pouch” or bolus. Massage done in affected body part with this kind of bolus is called as Narangakizhi. Lemon pieces along with some other herbs are processed in medicated oil and tied together in a cotton cloth forming bolus. These pouches are heated by dipping in warm oil and are applied over the body in long, circular and stamping strokes. The processed lemon in the pouch will increase local blood circulation by dilating blood vessels and thus promoting healing. It is also called as Jambeera Pinda sweda which is mainly used for Vaata dosha and kapha dosha diseases. It is used to decrease stiffness, muscle ache, ligament stiffness etc. Naranga kizhi is mainly associated with providing relief from the stiffness of joints and other musculoskeletal pains. It also helps in the treatment of sprained ligaments, sports injuries, lumbar spondylosis, cartilage tears, frozen shoulder, cervical spondylosis, rheumatoid arthritis etc.
